Polar bear exhibit – Schönbrunn Zoo, Austria
The Schönbrunn Zoo’s new polar bear exhibit ("Franz Josef Land“) is a 1700-m², rocky outdoor area containing streams, as well as several salt- and freshwater basins. The “polar dome” and viewing tunnels give visitors the opportunity to see the polar bears up close.
Due to the exhibit’s planned location between the existing Polarium, Andean bear enclosure, and rainforest building, several slope stabilization and underpinning measures were necessary. INSITU Geotechnik was tasked with the geotechnical assessment and consulting services related to the project.
- Planning and supervision of the subsoil investigation program
- Drafting of the geotechnical report
- Conceptual and preliminary design of the underpinning and excavation stabilization measures
- Geotechnical consulting services during the detailed planning phase and during construction
